Two of Grant Park’s newest residents made their first public appearances recently at Zoo Atlanta: Carlos, a 30-year-old male western lowland gorilla, and Bahagia, a rare Sumatran tiger.

The zoo eventually plans to introduce Carlos to the family group of the late Willie B., Atlanta’s esteemed ape who died last year, in the hope that he’ll assume the role of silverback in the troop. Carlos has begun his new life in Atlanta across a moat from the other gorillas in the Ford African Rain Forest, one of the country's premier gorilla facilities.
One of fewer than 500 Sumatran tigers in the world, Bahagia was introduced last week as part of the zoo’s “Save the Tiger Day.”
